Brush Up on Your Children’s Oral Health

It is very important to establish good oral hygiene habits with your children while they are young. Establishing these habits early helps ensure that your children’s teeth remain healthy for a lifetime.  Understanding when to begin your child on a routine and educating yourself on good oral habits will lay the foundation for your child as they get older.

Establish a Routine: Brush your child’s teeth at least twice a day. Spend 2 minutes brushing, concentrating on all surfaces of the teeth using a circular motion.

Seal Out Dental Decay: Sealants are a barrier to help prevent cavities from forming. Children should get sealants as soon as their permanent molars come in. Permanent molars come in between ages five and seven. Sealants are meant to be placed BEFORE decay attacks the teeth.

The Role of Fluoride: Fluoride helps prevent tooth decay by making the tooth more resistant to acid attacks from bacteria in the mouth. Fluoride can even reverse early decay!

Regular Dental Visits:  A check-up every six months is recommended in order to prevent cavities and dental emergencies. Prevention is the name of the game!

If your child has not been to the dentist within the last six months we encourage you to call us to set up an appointment. We are here to answer any questions you may have so please don’t hesitate to call!
